You are right, with the 3.73 gearing the difference in GVWR is not too much. Same wheels as yours, too, it looks like (the 20" wheels). Gas mileage is not so good. I have the V8 (5.4) and without towing I average around 14.8 on a regular basis. With the boat I get about 10-11 averaging 60-65 MPH. I am thinking of trading it in in a year or two for the new EcoBoost V6. More power, higher towing rating, 20+ MPG for regular use. My brother in Texas just got a 2012 FX4 with the EcoBoost engine and it is a joy to drive. He has a bass boat similar to yours and you don't even notice it back there.
The integrated trailer brake controller is the best feature, towing wise, for me. If you have electronic brakes on your trailer and it set right braking with 9000+ lbs is like stopping in a Honda Civic
