I have one on the front of my bass and it really serves me well. The transducer is on the trolling motor so I have no idea how it would work at higher speeds. It works great for locating fish and dropshopping. I have side imaging and gps on the back unit and don't know how I ever fished without it. I do not have the two tied together.
