Maybe I will save my money and stick to tubes. The attractive thing about a boat is that I can cover water more easily, I can bring more gear, I'm not freezing in the water in the colder months, and I can anchor. If I get anything, it won't likely be more than a little john boat or crawdad. I do have my tube all decked out to where it's a pretty nice fishing vessel. I can bring six rods and it has a fish finder. I definitely need a new tube though as the valves leak on mine so I have to beach it periodically and top off the bladders. Plus most of the zippers are broken now.
I think the panfish are on an upswing as last fall there were thousands of baby perch and gills in the shallows. I haven't caught any crappie yet this year, but last year I would catch one or two incidentally every time I was fishing bass there. I've actually neglected Condie this year for some reason. I have several awesome days there in April and early May, and then I got distracted by other lakes. I'm kicking myself for not getting back sooner now. Now that the crappie are more active, I bet I'll get into some again.
