Pyramid Lake, NV 6-10 thru 6-12
#10
BillyH,

I am not going to bash on the nets location where all those guys bring ladders out and fish from ladders. I used to fish behind them and catch more fish. That was always fun, boy they get pissed when I would catch a 5 lb right next to them. Anyways, I know of about 10-15 under water hot springs where fish congregate. I have attached a map of my favorite spots. The place i camped out was hot fishing for both trolling and jigging, the tamarack location is pretty good too, there is a hot spring about 70 feet below the water. Find a large school of chub and you found it. You mention a trailer? This is a NO-BAIT lake, no worms, anchovies, only artificial lures. Flatfish U-20 size or larger work great, get bright colors (bright green and yellow) for day time and dark colors (Frog or black) for low light conditions. Apex lures, very similar to flatfish. Spoons did not work good for me this time out. I ran a bunch of swim baits (ran some 7" AC plugs) and got a few good ones. The water temp was 60 degrees in the morning and up to 65 in the evening. The biggest fish I got were in shallow water, between 18-25 feet. But most of them were hanging around the 25-35 feet of water. We also finished Hells Kitchen, we saw tons of big fish, but couldn't figure out what they wanted. Remember, the Pyramid and Needles are off limits now. I still recommend jigging if the weather permits. A slow and steady presentation, they only hit on the way down and it's a soft hit usually. Most of the lures you can get at Crosby's Lodge in Sutcliff along with your permits and a beer. Also be careful and watch the weather report, you do not want to get caught across the lake when the wind picks up, I have seen 6 feet waves out there, gets a little bit worse then Lake Mead.
