Question about braided line on spincast reels?
#21
Yeah, I'm sure for the bigger (more expensive) reels, there are part replacement options like that. Your best bet would probably be to contact the warranty department or the sales department of the company.

I know this is bold, but I would almost (almost) guarantee that your pins would be fine... Do you know what kind of material they are made of? If they're ceramic, that's the only way you should worry at all. Titanium, Stainless Steel, Chrome / Chromium, etc. are all incredibly durable materials. That, combined with the fact that power pro is so smooth, I really don't think you'd have much to worry about. Remember, I'm using probably the bottom of the line Zebco spincast reel and there's nothing wrong with it. So with a $50-$75 reel, I'm sure the quality is even higher.

This is strictly personal, of course, but for me, I always measure things (whether it is a product, or a situation like this - more so a combination of products) by asking "Can this product last at LEAST one or two seasons...?" And if the answer is "Yes", then I see no problem with this. For me and my little bottom of the line Zebco Spincast reel (Along with a Shakespeare Spincast reel I recently picked up) the answer is looking like a "Yes." Maybe I'm being naive, but I just really cant see the pins wearing down before then.

As for the fluorocarbon question, yes.

I have it spooled on my third spincast reel (it too is a shakespeare - these models were only $12 at my local tackle shop.) and everything is performing fine so far.

With fluoro, as you probably know, the diameter is slightly smaller than its mono counterpart. While the difference may not be nearly as severe as with braid, it is still considerable. So you should probably use one or two pounds heavier than if you were using mono. Other than that, it works great. I recommend Berkley Vanish fluorocarbon. It really is 100% fluorocarbon, yet they've created it where it stretches slightly, but not too much.
