Maybe it was a big ole jack. Craziest thing I've seen is catching 40 lb jacks on a short hand line (12 ft/80lb test) with a shrimp at dock. That was a battle.
Don't even get me started on kayak fishing trips in the Keys and the Glades.
I think when I retire I'll split my time between Florida in the winter and Alaska in the summer.
