While it may not be about owning public waters, I do think it's more about people thinking they're entitled to the fish in those waters. Just because you found the spot or the technique or whatever doesn't make it yours.
My idea of a good fishing report is 'I went to (x body of water) on (day) and caught some nice bass. PM me for details if you want more info."
But if someone made a post that said "I went to (x body of water) on (day) and caught six bass over 17" in the shallows using Senkos and frogs." I would never dream of sending them a PM saying they shouldn't, much less calling them out on the board. It's their information to share the way they want.
I think it's been made pretty obvious over the years if you don't want a bunch of people showing up at your favorite spot, don't post about it. But if someone else finds your favorite spot and posts about it, just recognize it's not your private fishing waters anymore and concentrate on finding new spots. It isn't like there's a lack of fishing opportunities in Idaho. Especially if your favorite spot is a not-so-secret location on a well known public reservoir with topo maps available to everyone.[/quote]
Again I don't think it is about someone feeling they own a body of water.
The darken portion of your reply..if someone finds a spot I have been fishing for years and decides it is time to tell the world how great it is, I do have a problem with that, and I do ask them through a pm to please rethink this.
Look for a new spot? Is thatb like no checks no longer accepted because one or two people screwed it up for everyone?
All one can do is ask, but there are those that like you feel, how dare you, it isn't yours, and they post away. Got to love technology.
But, this one post isn't going to change anything. Maybe however one or two readers will think twice.
