Is the reel set up for 30lb line? You need to put on more than 40ft of line as well. Fill it up. What are you throwing for a lure? Not enough wieght on 30lb line may make it cast a short distance. I have 30lb braid on my saltwater rigs and it casts a mile with plugs or sluggos.
