Bob's right on. I contacted the BLM about five years ago because there was so much underage drinking, drugs, and everything else going on every weekend up there at the South Beach. They said the family had gotten a 50 year lease on the property some 35 or so years previous (I'm sure it was dirt cheap back then). So, by my reckoning, they only have less than 10 years before the lease expires. I would like nothing more than to have the BLM take it back and either develop it themselves or turn it over to the State to create more developed camp areas (Main Launch & South Beach) and boot the squatters off the prime access and camp areas. Could be worth starting a petition if that's possible, or create a group of investors to bid against them when it comes due. Bottom line is, as long as they are there, you have to pay the fees. However, beacuse it's public land all around their resorts, you can access any of it at no charge. It's great fishing, but currently comes at a price...
