well my favorite ways to catch mack's in CA are J-Plugs in different whites with some color and silver with blue backs and Rapalas. my favorite rapala is an F9 in the rainbow trout color, it may be small but they do the trick, Rapala's are the lure of choice at Tahoe Topliner's guide service on lake tahoe. i hope this info helps
