Happy Easter..I'm in miami too,maybe I can meet you and see.Stick with mono,or 10 lb power pro,the floro,wont cast very far,its used more as a leader.
If the line is not going on evenly,stop 3/4 way,and fill the rest by hand after removing the spool.Also,after you remove the spool,you should see a spacer on the shaft the spool goes on.By removing or adding a spacer,this will change the amount of line build up to either side of the spool.
By adding another spacer it will add more line to the bottom of the spool,and vise versa,sometimes I use the spacers from older reels or mod my own.Sometimes I get a small washer and squeez it to make the hole smaller so it stays on the shaft without slidding down,it should catch on a high spot on the shaft were the the original spacer is.Return it to wallmart,you should have 15 days to return it.Weird that happened to you,I never heard of this from wallmart.I have lots of rods from there.
I'll even try to beat guys here from big fish this year with a wallmart rod,maybe pick up a new sponsor,"wallmart"
