Question about what to use this time of year

Ive caught fish on a senko texas rigged with a bullet weight, and had several strikes on a top water frog while dragging it over weed beds, the bass end up missing the lure itself. But my favorite way to fish since last summer was a texas rigged culprit work, 7.5" and 10". Either in a red shad or grape shad color. I have used them both for days and havent caught a thing. Am i using these at the wrong time?
