Those "fish crashing on top" are actually gizzard shad right now, not stripers. They are spawning, and get very acrobatic during the spawn.

I think this is what we are seeing out there, cause you cant catch a damn thing casting through the action, and I saw 2lb gizzards clearing the water. I know they aren't running from anything at that size, so it must be spawn time for them.
