That video looks like a spring pike guarding its nest area. In MN they go shallow right about ice out to spawn and are really aggressive. That is why the fishing season is closed there in the spring to protect the spawn. As far as bait they will eat anything. Ducks are not safe. Another interesting thing were when the owls kill mice and gophers they will roost in a tree by the river and drop the gopher after eating only the head. The catfish we caught on the lower Boise River often ate these. I caught a big one a few years back that had 4 headless gophers and a quail chick in its belly. Talk about opportunity.
