IAL & Other Smallie Fans,
I am with you smallie guys. I feel even more strongly about perch and crappie.
I spend more time on steelhead and salmon than bass but think for the money we will get more bang for our buck investing in smallmouth bass in addition to other panfish. I am talking us sportsmen rather than the revenue generated for business. I want to take care of number 1 and my interest is recreation.
Therefore, IMHO, we should invest in all species equally instead of 99% native. It is not clear to me why a person would rate a native species over an introduced species. They should be judged on their own merits. I like to utilize the resource, catching and eating the fish at my discretion. The idea of us breaking the bank for a future of catch and release doesn't excite me for any of these species. A good example of what I don't like is the cutthroat trout movement in the SF of the Snake River. I would much rather build the rainbow population there with regulations that allow me to keep them rather than the way we are headed now (preserve catch-and-release cutthroats at all costs).
So +1 for the smallie fans. No hard feelings for you other folks.
