Wax worms are great for panfish! Simple rig of hook, line, sinker, and, depending on if I need to cast or not, a bobber.
When in a boat, I'd just use a single lead shot about 12 inches above my hook, put the waxie on the hook, line out about the length of the pole, I'd lower slowly, lift up slowly, and (to steal a word out of the old Batman and Robin series) whammo! I'd have a keeper.
