Met up with CVFisher and headed north of the border in search of some good ice, and good fish. Well - sort of found good ice if you don't count the slushy edges! Think we coulda used a plank! There was one BIG step, and CV dipped a toe (or two) but once on the ice - it was thickest I've drilled through this year. Good thing we didn't have to move around much to find fish!
We hit Glendale, and went out from the boat launch. Ended up in 15-20ft, and dropped some sonar and jigs down. Fish just off the bottom - YUUUUP - they was some perch alrighty! Some frisky young bows came flopping to play. Landed into a couple hunky mothers! Came up puking up perchlings! Several bitty bows - not even 6 inchers, but then this chunky monkey came to play. I can't count - but probably landed at least 25 bows over the day. I think CV had at least as many, if not more. (do you count?)
The dear perch were fairly cooperative. Some were GENUINE dinkers (kept some micros for catfish bait!). But a few had some bulk to 'em. CV caught the biggest perch, think I had the biggest trout. Slowed down pretty good in the later afternoon hours.
But MAN what fun to watch those marks on the finder - see them come up to your jig, see the spring-bobber bounce, and hookin and grinnin! Loving it! Of course there was plenty of 'come up and look, yet nada' along the way too. Seemed like they wanted some action. Had loads of raised rods with follows up from the bottom - just for a look see. Catch them come up and check out the flasher then drop down to the jig (ready, set, fire!)
We listened to barely audible trickle turn into a serious stream over the course of the day. Sign sign - everywhere a sign. Springs coming!
One thing I know - I'm sold on spending some time on Idaho's southern lakes this year. Sold - as in bought the danged annual pass! Now I gotta make it worth it! Good start is all I can say.
Thanks to CVf- for taking me up, showing me around some of the lakes there. Lots of options, so very close - I'm a keeper now! I swear - everytime I looked out the window - that boy was pulling up another fish!
