You have sparked my interest in researching this further, and I've have not been able to find any real studies about this. However, there is some evidence to support the claim that wolves do kill just to kill.
But there is also evidence that bears and other predators do too. But there is no known evidence that ALL wolves, bears or large predators kill for fun. I do support the idea of controlling wolves by hunting but as with any hunting, it should be regulated and controlled.
