Good idea but by the time you start adding up all the costs for the batteries and motor etc... you might as well get an ice gator which is essentially the same thing in a production model ready to go.

thebug: You would be best off to get a nils hand auger with or without an attachment. I drilled 15 Holes at Mackay the other day in about 10 minutes. The ice was 15" thick. Yes my shoulders started to burn, but I have shoulder problems the nils kept burning through the ice.
