Lake Mead Trout plants
#28
Ask some of the guys that have been fishing plugs or anything else on the river and mead for 20 years what effect the lack of trout stocking will have on the big striper fishery.... My 2 cents is this; yeah there will be big fish still around but they won't be as easy to target as before. Instead of fishing for them every other friday with big trout plugs you're going to have find them some other way.
Before, when they stocked placer, you could go down there the day or two after the plant and catch 4 or 5 nice stripers in an afternoon. Now i think you're going to have to fish for a week to catch that many, they're not going to be feasting on the dumb hatchery fish.
I believe you'll still see some big stripers caught at mead this winter, but not nearly as many as last year or the years where regular trout planting occurred. Without the trout dinner bell ringing, it's going to be harder to fool them and thats the bottom line.
