I hear ya Ron. People around here needlessly torture bullheads also. If they pull one up, they don't take the hook out of its mouth and throw it back in the water, they slam it as hard as they can on the ground hoping the hook comes loose and, in the meantime, mortally wounding the fish.
More people need to realize that all the fish play in the balance of things. If you don't want it, someone nearby might want it. If not, be gentle with it and put it back in the water. Nothing difficult about that.
Anyway.... I did go fishing today although I was cold and it was sprinkling. I started out going for cats but wasn't having much luck. During the time for cats, I saw a smallie jump out of the water and saw a few carp sucking at the surface. Well, I didn't have gear with me for the smallies so I left them alone.
I switched hooks, threw on some vanilla flavored and scented paste, and caught a nice little carp that gave me a good five minute battle. Man, was my arm tired and sore after that one! Just as I'd get him close enough to get out of the water, he'd take off again! Finally, he gave up and I got him onto the mud at my feet. I gently removed the hook while he was still halfway in the water before I picked him up. I dunno if it was because my arm was tired or just because he was heavy... but he felt like a good 15 pounds.
That would provide enough bait for a couple of hours!
