Right on Jim. That has me 
as well. Baxter weighs 17 lbs (but LONG...LOL) and he has no room with a battery...the deck does help.
Maj. the oars that come with the boat are designed to pack with the boat and they work fine for me. Of course they can be improved on with the Ultra Lights.
They are NOT Carlisle like the ones that come with most boats. Thin plastic blade. These have a shorter wider blade.
NOTE: You do need to separate them after use as they will fill with water some what.
