Well the best thing I can tell you is, Northern counties of the state and the mountain area. Bugs Island, Dan River, Yadkin River, New River( Best ) then the French Broad River, Little Pigeon River, and other ones in the mountains. You can also catch smallies in Uwharrie State Park. Also check www.ncangler.com and go to the freshwater or mountain or central , kayak any one of these could help you out also.
