My basic concern is that I would agree with most of these post. I have complained about Willard having Wipers in the first place. Being that the catfish were once larger and catching them was a common occurence according to TubeDude who has fished Willard since the 18th century(damn that telephone psychic she had me fooled, but not for long). But TubeDude has said some things back to me, and that got me to rethink what my opinions were. He has told me some facts that were in fact relevant, and an honest observation.
Freshwater Octupus are better for Willard than Wipers. They don't over populate and they even eat carp. Vampire Perch from the Amazon River Basin would work but they require the Utah DWR to use solar heated panels to keep Willard warm enough for them to spawn.
I know I got you laughing hysterically.
On a serious note I would like to think(and this is strictly opinion) that a lower Wiper limit would mean that with more Gizzard Shad being eaten, that would in fact leave more zooplankton for the catfish and bluegills. That to me is what would improve the growth of the Willard kitties. And sorry to say Willard cats are too small. For a warm water fishery they are too darn small! Period!
Lower the Wiper limit at Willard please, and I hope those Gizzards get their fishy behinds killed to the effect that other species in the lake do better, much better hopefully.
The catfish are too small and they don't get enough to eat. Their flavor is better than any other fishery I have been too, but so what, the DWR need to rethink in regards to Willard catfish and take them more seriously. I do! Catfish should be large and have plenty to eat. Wiper have to be stocked and I'am not at all enthusiastic about them being in Willard. I have ate them before but so what, Stripers taste better. I'd rather spend $100 in gas and catch them at Havasu, Mohave or Meade then pay Willard a visit.
As I already have said though, the Wiper should eat as much Gizzard Shad as possible and raise the zooplankton population please! I would love to see some action at Willard that raises the zooplankton population at Willard that would be nice.
I hope I made sense, most of my post don't....oh well.[:/]
