When I first read your post TD - thought it was going to be another report of masses of fish "freed" from the confines of their watery habitat.
My wife and daughter spent a similar day on the Logan river cleaning roadside, riverside, and parking lots. Amazing that there can be piles of trash left RIGHT next to a dumpster. Word - how hard is it people! The number of worm tubs, and mangled clusters of fishing line. That schtuff don't biodegrade people! Seriously!!!
Thought we decided some time back - it's not an ethnic think - it's the lurkers (luuuurrrkkkkeeeerrrss).
But honestly - I'm with you. Trashers come in all shapes and colors, but there seems to be a cultural aspect to the disregard for common decency. I grew up with University parents, and friends of all types of cultures. Plenty of "melting pot" around family and friends.
Lived in S.Cal for a time too. Got to see first hand how "they" live. And - not as a diss - but a statement - the disreguard for trash very well ties to a cultural basis. Visiting La Bufadora (the blowhole) I was withness to the "basero" - there is no garbage dump with tractors burying waste, but just a "pile" on the side of town where you go pitch your waste and be done with it.
So basically anywhere can become a 'trash dump'.
Have been witness to trashing that goes beyond icky to outright gross (livers "hung" from bush-branches - that's just nasty!) And the diapers - that's beyond 'not Kosher'!
There's often comments about "the Asians" or "the Hispanics" not following the regs, poaching, illegal techniques (gill-netting). And not getting caught, or not often enough. So yeah - lets spend billions of dollars to support folks who are not willing to learn the "American" language. Personally - I don't think so - need more "MELTING" in this pot!
So when you say "show your weapon" are you referring to pitching an RC-Killer at the offenders? Maybe I should carry something more than a big rod and a sharp swiss-army when venturing out late after dark. Have heard that Willard after dark can bring in a less-than-preferable element shoreside in places.
Anyway - KUDOs to anyone who cleans up. And pooh-dohs on anyone who leaves trash!!! We oughta get Barney out there to take care of them all! I'll keep bringing an extra bag to fill. But
ly - certain to be more than I can/will carry - and certain to be replaced by "fresh" trash shortly after.
