I have shot both a 30-06 and a 270 and I perfer the 270 shoots flatter and will kill deer and elk with the right grain bullet. I own both but always use to grab the 270 it's so much more accurate out to 400yrds.
Now if you can get lucky enough to find a 7mm express not a mag. that is a sweet gun and is the best of both the 30-06 and the 270. but I haven't seen one since my dad sold his when he quit big game hunting. that was a aim shoot kill clean your out of there killing machine. loved to shoot it at muley out to 600 yrds killem stone dead in there tracks.
just my opinion, don't know if they even make bullets for it so take it with a grain of salt. and do your home work with the ballistics charts.
Did some homework and it is .280 they dropped the 7mm express name due to people getting
. Rem make it in a 700 series called the mountain, very popular for an all around good gun for everything but bear.
