I grew up in Ely and can tell you that two days with the small number of people they had searching didn't even scratch the surface. Even if all the tunnels and shafts that are more than 100 yd. from easy vehicle access are ruled out (how far can one carry a body unless it's cut into pieces) there are way more than they could have looked at. All over eastern Nevada and western Utah there are open abandoned mines by the hundreds within the mileage range travelled by that rental car. It could take years to cover all the possibilities and with the activity going on to seal these old mines, the right spot may never be found. If that's even what happened to her.
