+1 on the rod sweep, I use that method at first no matter what I'm throwing. You can always change up speed after that, most bass will eat something that's naturally crawling along the bottom rather than hoppin' up and down, craws don't jump, lol.
I caught one of my biggest bass on a jig because I got tired of searching for shallow bass. It was lucky, I won't lie, I threw it out in the deep water, drug it back a couple times and BAM! Fish on!
