My wife called me from work saturday to say she was getting out of there at noon thirty, let's go camping for one night. We have three dogs that always have to go, and a 16 month old son that hasn't been yet. I hooked up the trailer and packed up. Hit the road....and lost the tread on a trailer tire as soon as I got on the freeway. Wouldn't ya know it, no spare. Dumped it off back at home, threw the yakima on the roof and transferred over the essentials and headed down to salt creek.
Had a great evening, even though it rained all night. I told Ash it sure beats sitting at home watching cops and wishing I was camping.
my dad met us in the morning and we got geared up. I asked my dad if he would give Ash a lesson and I would watch the boy and the dogs behind them. In five years I have been unable to give her a good on the water lesson and get her on fish, mostly because of the three dogs or weather. I watched her land a nice ten I.ch brown on a stimulator on her first cast! I saw her catch/miss a number more before I took the boy and the dogs back to camp (a jack russell and a lab together make an adventurous duo that don't like being leashed up in the woods).
About an hour or so later, Ash and dad make their way around the bend and I get to see her land a few more fish. She was holding them right and unhooking and releasing like a pro. Dad taught her well! I was so proud of her.
on the drive home she said three seperate times "we gotta get out and do more of this flyfishing together." Score!

They both caught a ton of dink browns, only a couple over ten inches. BUT, the fish were really healthy and were gregarious about stimulators and adams. Water was clear, even with the rain. Lower than I expected. No hatches or bugs out, other than an s- load of black flies.
