I was waiting for this one...
First, the only reason in my opinion to use lighter text line is to cast farther... Spinner bait fishing from the bank I rarely cast over 30 feet and most of the time I am pitching even closer than that
Second, I can't count the number of times I saved my lure by being able to yank it out with the heavier fluorocarbon line... That 20 dollar line pays for itself
Last thing, if I ever do get a backlash the heavier line seems to pull out of it better and with less damage to the line
