FYI, WD-40 was developed as a water displacing spray for the military, If I recall correctly it was mosre for navy, to keep the water out of gear quickly upon emerging from the wet so the "tools" could be quickly put into use, think drying out the chambers and barrels of a gun. it has NO fish oil or other parts in it. through time the formula has changed away from the use of such molecular chains of PCB type ingredients, the hydrocarbons are the same you will find in most petroleum based products from gasoline to sea foam as they are all petroleum products.
It only takes a concentration in PPB (parts per billion) range to effect wildlife, and can reach lethal proportions in some cases in the PPM (parts per million) range of concentration. so IF one dumps a 32oz can (1/4 gallon) they have contaminated to a potonentially lethal level the water surrounding them to the next 250,000 gallons. the math is one gallon bad stuff ruins 1,000,000 million gallons of good stuff. potentially.
i dont have the exact amounts so dont quote me, but in my lab we analyze in the part per billion range and that is considered contamination by the EPA and requires "clean up" for which i have no idea how they do that. especially in "flowing" water.
just imagine, if 64 anglers use 2 oz. of that stuff in a day of fishing, that is one gallon introduced into the system. in one day. if that occurrs several times a year, your favorite lake could be dead by fall. plants, animals, fish, bugs, everything. no bueno.
good times, tight lines, good to leave the 40 at home.
just info, dont mean to bring it down on anyone. my gramps used to use the 40 once in a while. i probably have too.
