Need some varmint gun input

I'm working near Huntington, Castledale area and we went shooting after work the other day. I was sighting in my BAR 300 win. mag (damn sexy!) and then we went for a drive. Prairie dogs everywhere! It was like shooting bottles of ketchup with that 300 lmao! Lots of fun but cumbersome and awkward jumping out of the truck with it. So, I'm thinking a 223 with a decent scope would do it but I've never owned a 223 and was wondering what you guys would suggest. My buddy has dies for 223 and already does my 380,357,45,300, and 06 for me so I that part is decided, now I'm just trying to figure out a make and model....
