have you ever tried flurocarbon lines? i have it the newest and grestest line out therei use it for tippets to main line. depending on what i am doing. it is not as tuff as say trilean xl or silver threrad seem to have smaller dia then normal mono. also is ligther pound test so i will always go up a line size. at 15 buck is a litle expensive.
another problem with heavy rod i have noticed is if not useing a weighted lure in the right range for the rod ie: to light of lure. the line will not wind on right and will birds nest so he maybe doing it wrong by buying to heavy duty of a rod for too light of a application. just a suggestion the line maybe right for the weight of the rod but using to light of weight at the end for the lure or casting weight when reeled in will cause it to tangle up. go figure.
