Tanaka 1.2HP outboard motor
#4
There is a lesson to be learned here, and it doesn't just apply to outboard boat motors. The biggest thing is, when you order an off brand piece of equipment, or even an incredibly old piece of equipment, the likely hood of finding parts is very low.

On the other end of the coin, if you buy a product from an estabolished company, you normally won't have any trouble finding parts, and usually at a reasonable price. If you were to find the part for that motor, not only would the price probably be astronomical, but you might have to wait two months or more for it to get to the US, by boat, from china or something. (I went through this with a part for a shotgun)

I'm very budget minded, but i've never heard of that brand of outboard before. I probably would not have made that purchase. I don't know what you paid, but there are outboards in that HP range from Mercury and other established companies all over craigs list and such, for well under 500 bucks. I saw one the other day infact. Briggs and Stratton even makes one, and they are really cheap to work on, and as reliable as any briggs motor ever made.
