Mantua on the fly
#10
So what fly did you use? Once while I was there, there were two gentlemen out on pontoons. Both catching fish...allot of fish. One was using a brown bugger, the other an olive. So..... I tied on a brown and olive Gartside softhackle #6 and slammed them. Also used a type II line, got to get down.
Purple Showgirl and Rickards Blood and burnt orange seal bugger always produce there.
Caught everything on a brown bugger. I'd cast and count to thirty five before I started to strip. Tried doing to technique of counting to such a number then throw a few casts if no hits change up the count by 5 seconds or so, I just never could quite seem to figure them out. I actually started out with the purple showgirl and didn't get a touch, my buddy was using a california leech in a reddish color. I did try the floating line with a strike indicator and a snocone chironomid with a size 18 pheasant tail underneath it but didn't have any touches. The breeze was just right to be able to keep my line tight and put out some line, I was planning on slamming them with that but no dice. I'm hoping to get out again Wednesday after work.
