For tippet - Will I be OK just using a light-weight monofilament line like 4 or 6 pound test?

And I'm definitely keeping the rod. I figured I'd be out more buying one which is why I had set my sights on it, but it was passed down to me from my uncle and you can tell it has been used, but it hasn't been used hard. Still in its original tube. Part of me screams that a tool should be used, then the sentimental side speaks up. Sentimental side might just win for the time being.
