You do not need a Shimano Syemetre reel. Or similar because they cost to much $99.99 to fish unless you see it as a great hobby and want to. but I suggest not going that route I would say around 20-60 bucks is perfect 30 – 50 for a rod depending on what you like I like the old ulgy sticks but some will say st croix and g loomis cause you can feel every piece of rock and gravel on the bottom when salmon fishing. Shimano convergence rods carry a life time warranty keep in mind and are a good fishing stick I have a salmon steel one that is awesome. I only paid 39.99 for it they retail for $130.00. like I was saying stop in to a shop around you and pick up a couple of the reel in the display case some will be smother then others also pick up the rods and see if the action works for you. Me telling you what is best is wrong like I said I personally like shimano but the other like mitchell you can’t beat there smoothness or their reel s any ways good luck hope this list helps ya.shop around and get the best price on the reel you like most. Or buy it at the shop you stopped in those mom and pop shops are a value in them self’s cause of the wealth of knowledge .

also spinning reel do not get back lash like a bait caster does can get back lash cause of loose drags and a fish taking off up river. or you just got plain old line twist and when you cast it gets loops under the loops. which suck to get out some times with fish on. cause of the bail wire getting cought on a loop but spinning reel are damn easy to use. are easier for non pros lol's
