Learning to use a baitcaster is a learning experience... Hold your bait out of the water, click the release and turn the tension knob until the bait stops falling. Cast high enough to see the bait flying, when the bait hits the water thumb the spool to a stop... if you get backlash mess with the magnet control knob... Practice practice, don't give up, before you know it you will be able to whip a lure into spots you wouldn't be able to hit with any other kind of reel. Good luck! I have caught some of my biggest bass trying to straighten up a backlash! LBD
