Anchor for tubes
#2
[cool][#0000ff]I don't like using anchors in a float tube. No matter how I watch it I always end up with rope around my ankles. But there are some times when an anchor is a good compromise between kicking yourself to exhaustion and getting off the water.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]They sell little 5# anchors expecially for tubes, but I don't like them. They have hooks on them and those get caught in rocks and brush easy. Better to get a 10# mushroom or some other design that is less likely to have you permanently anchored to some spot on a remote lake.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Even better for many situations is to always carry a mesh bag and a length of rope. You can add a few rocks to the bag when you get to the water and store it behind your seat. If it gets breezy you let it down and let out enough rope (scope) to keep it well behind you. Position yourself upwind from where you are casting and go for it. Then, when you get back to shore, dump out the rocks and go home.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Some tubers carry several feet of heavy chain as an anchor. It may only slow down your drift but it is often good enough to hold you where you want to be. Depends on how long and heavy the chain is...and how hard the wind blows. [/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]I do use marker buoys a lot...even in calm water. They help create a close visual reference when the fish are holding in a small area. They are really helpful at Starvation when you find a perch pile. Fishing even a few feet off the mark can keep you fishless. But staying on the right spot can fill your basket. Ditto for Mantua and Pineview.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]About the lures...yes, we did create some humongos. But I created another monster. Bryce has gone wacko and is ordering about 200 new jig heads...small weights on big hooks...in several styles and sizes. I think he is getting serious about catching the biggest tiger in Pineview this year. If nothing else, he and Joe are definitely gonna molest a lot of big basses.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]We gotta start thinking about putting together a BFT floatilla on Starvation this year. Fishing 'til about noon and then fillet up the catch and do a big shore lunch. Anytime from mid June on there will be lots of fish of all species available...and they will be shallow enough for the fly flingers too.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]That is if we are not still shovelling snow in June.[/#0000ff]
