Quote:if we only have native fish from idaho, we would all be board stiff.........what are native ? steelhead, chinooks, sockeye, rainbows, brookies, dolly varden, suckers, squaw fish, whitefish...... AHHHH no warm water fish for me . i wouldn't even buy a liscence. i am in favor of introducing even more types of fish here. would love to have stripped bass, white bass, and others. just put them in places so they cant harm our native fish
With the exception of brook trout and dolly varden (ID has bull trout) you are spot on with whats native. However there are actually about 40 native ID fish species, several of them anadromous. This is what makes ID so unique. It is the most inland state that still has anadromous fish and people still arent happy and want to turn it into the mid west. Blows my mind.
Just where would you put your desired fish where THEY wouldnt have an impact on native species??? Other than private ponds you are pretty much SOL. After the walleye all stunt out at about 11" in Ririe they should pretty much replace the yellow perch.....which isnt a native species either LOL. I will say on the table these two species shine. Wonder how many smolts get eaten by smallmouth every year on thier downstream journey?
