Seriously, I wasn't aware of the possibility of a defective cartridge: Not good. Still, I will heed your advice and check it out.
I used to have a kayaker's vest but hardly ever wore it. If I had dumped in the ocean that would not have been good, especially with the hit of ice cold water that can take your breath away.
Years ago, I was canoing down the Russian River. The first day was great. The second day our necks were chafed from paddling with the life jackets on all day the day before so we took them off. Well, we were being carried by a swift current around a bend in the river when dead ahead lie a large branch (6 inches thick) coming right at me. I yelled at my partner to duck and as I laid back in the canoe to let the branch pass over me, next thing I know we are both in the water in a dangerous situation clinging onto the side of the canoe. It took 4 guys with rope to get us out of that mess. Our PFD's, paddles, clothing, etc. went down river...without us.
