walleye -- the difference is how the opinion is formed. Is the opinion based upon the best available information (published reports/data that has been scrutinized by other biologists or professionals in the field)? Or is it based on hearsay, rumor, and myths?
You are correct, you cannot believe everything you read on the internet. That's why it is important to use credible sources. Reports that have been written by professionals, critiqued by other professionals, and then published by respected periodicals are a pretty good source of information. You can't ignore those types of sources, no matter how badly they go against your own beliefs.
There are some people who, if they don't already know, you can't tell them.
