I think this is a great discussion, but we are all practicing armchair biology here. There is not a lot that we here as anglers can do. I like the fervor, but with all the relevant facts at hand, and setting aside the irrelevant, you still have so many factors that cannot be controlled that any solutions tried would have to take into account so many factors that the success would me minimal. If there was a solid solution I think the DWR would have implemented it already. But for now fish eating carp included, the lake will seek it's own natural balance and the DWR will help it.

Interesting comment on the piscivorous nature of carp. It is a mechanical response to the lack of natural "graze" or lack there of in particular of many generally herbivorous fish. But anything short of commercial fishing for carp would not remove enough of them. The clean slate idea is the only viable method of turning around the reservoir and even then the end product would be exactly what we have right now. I believe the natural method of boom and bust is a bit slower but more effective. And again technically there is no "natural" balance to Yuba. It is a man made reservoir in the desert with species that are not native to Utah. It is a Boom and Bust reservoir. There is no "niche" that fits. The nature of the lake is to change.
