And, as has been mentioned before, the current fishing pressure on Yuba will do nothing to remove the large predators from the system.Folks just aren't going to drive down there for the not too good fishing. And the folks that are good enough to catch big Pike don't want them killed.
Starvation was once in the same situation. The DWR had the same plan. Remove predators. It didn't help. What did help was the Perch. Against all odds they survived and flourished. Now Starvation has bigger Walleye and a fishable population of Perch. Imagine that!!
So the whole notion of can't, won't, nothing we can do but watch and hope someone catches the big fishies really isn't a plan. If a few Perch can survive and become abundant in Starvation with huge numbers of predators , then maybe they could in Yuba. While we are having good water. If nothing is done during the high water, the chance is gone. We may have a few good water years, and we may have a drought next year. Who knows? But the chance to get a bunch of Perch into the system and possibly turn a worthless lake into a top ten Walleye lake is now. Or sit around and hope someone goes down and tries to catch a few Pike. Then what?
