I just went thru this very issue and my final decision was the Cortland 444SL in 8wt type S3 to match my new to me orvis....
Going out tommorow hopefully to give a try. I have casted it a couple times in the yard and all I can say is that it will most definetly chunk the bigger bugs and it is waaay smooth thru the guides. As for turning over those big flies...I would say alot of that is dependant on your leader type and material. I am using a tapered store bought leader for now but may end up converting to a famous "fishgoddess" furled leader.
