I'm not that old but I can remember the shutdown in November 1995. Maybe you guys are just too young to remember. It wasn't the end of the world. Yes the National Parks were shutdown where possible.I think they did block some entrances and facilities to some areas but obviously can't block highways through the parks. That shutdown was the first nail in Gingrich's coffin when he said he forced the shutdown because he felt slighted by Clinton. I hear reports he alive and talking politics again so he's truly a political zombie.

I personally am for a compromise because that's how the 2 party system is supposed to work. Being from Utah I guarantee you the single party political system doesn't represent anyone well. Just look at the seizure of the right to fish many streams and lakes and the third world government secrecy laws that passed here.
