light line vs. heavy line

I use 4 lb on my ultralights. I'd like to use 2 lb, but I can't use the small openfaced reels and 2 lb was problematic for me with triggerspins. But when I go for catfish, I use heavy Fireline. I like to get the cats to the shore so I go overkill in the line department. I've caught 5 lb bass in current with 4 lb test, so I don't feel very handicapped by light line.
