just a bit curious about this. My thinking has it that this would be a summer or fall thing as the water would be drying up or diverted and trapping the fish. I have seen that before.
Why is it now in the early spring when the canals and anything that holds water should be getting filled soon? I can't seem to think this through. They are getting ready to increase flows at the dams to make room for the melt off. Are these pockets of water left over from last season and if so why wouldn't they have winter killed? Do the water owners shut the head gates down in the spring and keep all of the water in the system for storage in the reservoirs while the flows were constant through the winter to prevent winter kill?
