Salmon - up or down?

As we hit the road Thursday afternoon I still hadn't decided on going down below Shoup or up above Challis. I decided as we hit Blackfoot to go the Challis route as I thought that the rain forcasted could make for a muddy river down below. (Like it did 3 weeks ago) We had good action - 18 fish between 3 of us in 2 days, but I sure like the chance of hooking into the larger ones down lower. I would like to know if anyone fished the lower sections of river and how they did.
