light line vs. heavy line
#36
The right line for what your fishing for. We have all heard the stories about someone pulling in a 20lb catfish on 4lb line. Was that smart? Or did that person know he would catch a 20lb cat. Probably not.

I always believed in bringing 3 poles fishing. Light, medium and heavy. Meaning maybe a light rod with 4lb, a medium with 10lb and a heavy with 20-30lb for my surf and bay fishing.

Usually I only use the light and medium but once in awhile I will toss the heavy out with a squid and nail a shark! Biggest I caught was 4' and over 25lbs ( Off the shore )[shocked]

So my recommendation to to know the areas you are fishing and prepare properly. Keeping extra line is great but who wants to spend there fishing trip re-lining?[crazy]

If anything keep extra reels lined with different line. That is another trick I do and has worked for me.[Wink]

Anyway now what your fishing for, the area and possible fish in that area and have the necessary equipment and you will be fine.

Good luck all and remember trout season in California will be opening very soon at local lakes[shocked]
